All of Italy has fantastic fountains. They are some of the most enjoyable spots on the planet. Many still use the same aqueduct the Romans built to bring cool water into the cities.
This piece was inspired by just such a fountain I sat near on the outskirts of Naples. The sprite dancing in the fountain had mischief all over her face. The yellow came from the walls behind the fountain and the purple represents the lilacs which surrounded this little piece of paradise. I incorporated metal into the piece because I had just visited an iron monger in another part of the city and couldn’t get the pictures of the different metals he was using to make ornate gates out of my head.
This is an original piece and is mounted on a heavy duty gesso board. It weighs about 2lbs and probably needs a suitable mounting bracket. The flora comes from the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge mountains and has been preserved.
It makes me want a cannoli!
